Husband And Wife Robbed At Church

A husband and wife were robbed at a local church and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is trying to find out the man, involved in the robbery.

"The robber, he didn't really steal much, he just kind of stole more of that sense of safety and security," Reverend Zack Martin said with the Crossroads United Methodist Church.

Rev. Martin said that a husband and wife were robbed at a church, when the couple left the church two Saturdays ago around at 8 p.m. He also said that the two victims were going to leave the church after preparing for the Sunday services, which is the following day. The couple were surprised as they got to their car.

The man has surprised the couple as they were getting into their car and also within 10 seconds, the man pointed a rifle at them, and demanded the wallets then he ran back the way he came, Martin said.

The investigators said the robber got away in the 1997 to 2000 Lexus ES or LS with a sunroof, the license plate number of the car is unknown. The investigators are trying to investigate if the man had targeted the church or any other place. Reverend Martin has his own doubts about the case.

"I don't think he knew the area. It's just kind of a crime of opportunity I believe," Reverend Martin said.

Derrick Barnett who lives in the new subdivision nearby said that he is concerned about the robber, who is on the loose.

"I would turn him in without a moment’s notice and hopefully he'll be caught really soon," Barnett said.

Those are the sentiments of the sheriff's office and also the man of cloth who heads up the congregation at the Crossroads United Methodist Church. But he has a tone of forgiveness.

"I'd be open to talking to him if he's ever caught because I want him to ultimately be restored to be the man I think God intends him to be," Reverend Martin said.

He also said that the husband and wife who were robbed at the church are physically not broken but emotionally they were broken to pieces. Reverend Martin believed that the robber did not know about the area because if he had been casing out the area of the church, then he would have likely seen that the Rockdale County Sheriff Deputies use the parking lot of the church on a regular basis for the paperwork.
