Two police officers shot in Middle Georgia!

Two police officers were shot while serving a search warrant at a home in Crawford County, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. A suspect was killed during a shootout with police officers, authorities said.

According to the Investigators, officer James Wynn and Officer William Patterson, from the Byron Police Department, were part of a multi-county drug task force.

The multi-jurisdiction drug task force was serving a warrant at a home along Georgia Highway 42 when the shooting took place around 2:30 AM on Monday.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge J.T. Ricketson said that, "They knocked on the back door and announced their presence and that they were performing a search warrant."

"No one responded so they gained entry by going through the back door. As the officers were entering inside the residence, an occupant inside the residence fired at least one round. It may be more," Ricketson said.

"These officers returned fire after they were fired upon. I don't know how many rounds they fired. We will be determining that," he said. "One subject was struck and he is actually deceased."
