Kashmir violence: Death toll reaches 23, life paralyzed for third day

The clashes between protesters and security forces in the wake of the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter in Kashmir caused life of around 23 people, the officials said. The normal life still remained paralyzed for the third day due to the curfew-like restrictions.
“Two persons have died in an incident of violence in Kulgam district yesterday and have been identified as Feroze Ahmad Mir (22) and Khursheed Ahmad Mir (38),” a police official said.
The violent protests erupted following killing of Wani in an encounter with security forces. Since Friday, the mobile telephony has been suspended in the four districts of south Kashmir.
The death toll mounted at 23, while over 250 persons have been injured in the clashes and the situation continues to be tense across the Valley.
According to the authorities, shops, business establishments, private offices and petrol pumps were shut, while the government offices and banks witnessed thin attendance.
The public transport was completely suspended to the roads while auto-rickshaws and private cars were seen plying at few places.
The examinations have been postponed in the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) due to the prevailing situation.
