The event is being celebrated at the Piedmont Park 1342 Worchester Dr NE Atlanta, GA 30306 for the Memorial Day Weekend from Friday May 27 to Sunday May 29.
According to organizers, the festival showcases local and national jazz greats, youth jazz band competition, a neighborhood jazz series, a kids zone and many other family-friendly activities.
The festival was founded by Mayor Maynard Jackson with the idea to spotlight jazz in the city. He said that, “Jazz music is America’s only original art form, and Atlanta, with its growing reputation as an international center of the arts and education, has both the opportunity and the responsibility to promote an art form whose roots are indigenous to the South.”
Atlanta Jazz Festival is free and open to the public. It is funded through the support of corporate sponsorships and Atlanta Jazz Festival, Inc. as well. It is a non-profit entity dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Atlanta Jazz Festival.
