The holier-than-thou godman Asumal Sirumalanai, more famous as Asaram Bapu is in the dock for the second time, as two sisters from Surat have accused the 72-year-old sadhu and his 41-year-old son Narayan Sai for luring and intimidating followers into having sex with them.
Not just that, one of the two sisters have revealed the active roles that Asaram's wife Lakshmi Devi and daughter Bharti Devi played in pimping young girls to him. Another sister doled out a detailed account of the ordeal she suffered at the hands of Narayan, who is now absconding.
According to the elder sister’s complaint, "she was first stopped from going home by Lakshmi in 1997, when she had come to attend a satsang in Ahmedabad. In 2001, it was Bharti who took her to the godman’s farmhouse near their Motera Ashram where Asaram forced himself on her and made her perform fellatio. He raped her later. Later Bharti took her back to the ashram, where she remained unwell for days," reported Daily Mail.
Nearly after a month, she was called in by Lakshmi again to attend to Asaram. "This time the girl escaped into the garden and spent an entire night there to avoid going to Asaram. The very next day she was presented before Lakshmi, who slapped her hard and sent her to Asaram in the afternoon. Asaram, the girl says in her complaint, castigated her with the most vulgar terms possible and also threw utensils at her. The abuse continued, and in 2007, the girl escaped from the ashram and got married in due course," the newspaper revealed.
The younger sister had to undergo far more worse consequence. She caught the fancy of godman’s son at a satsang in Surat in 2001 and taken first to Meghnagar Ashram in Madhya Pradesh and later to another ashram in Bihar, where Narayan raped her for the first time. She was taken around to various other ashrams, including one in Kathmandu, before she was returned to Surat,” wrote the Daily Mail.
While in Surat, she was again escorted to Narayan's ashram where he misbehaved with her again.
According to the complaint, Narayan groped and grabbed her and kissed her forcefully. Then he “pushed her on to a bed and started touching her inappropriately all over. Gradually he took off his clothes and forced me to perform oral sex on him,” she stated.
“He then stripped me completely, and I could not even shout because of my fear. He paid no heed to my pleas for mercy,” she said.
Narayan then dragged her to bathroom and raped her.
Post the encounter, he threatened her to stay quiet. Later, “she was made the in-charge of Ganmbhoi Ashram in Sabarkantha, where too Narayan raped her and made her fellate him on several occasions,” the complaint revealed.
Not able to withstand any more humiliation, the girl fled the ashram in 2005.
Two years later, even the elder sister fled the ashram. The sisters reunited and shared their ordeal. However, it was only after Asaram was thrown behind the bars that they mustered up enough courage to lodge complaints.
