Congress is riding high these days! After wooing the aam aadmi with food bill, it's set to bill and coo the “kisaans” now with its land bill, a new addition to its poll armory.
The Congress will table the vexed land bill in the Lok Sabha today.
Even as BJP and Congress quibble and war over other legislations, both seem to have arrived on a remarkable understanding now. In fact, it was quite a surprise when the Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh facilitated a pact by accepting the suggestions of leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj.
The government is hoping the bill will get a green light in Rajya Sabha too.
On the hindsight, behind Congress' sudden willingness to share credit lies the “gameplan” to bolster up its 'aam aadmi" credentials, the land bill and food security law — crucial manifesto promises identified with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
However, the bonhomie is likely to perish on the political pitch, when Congress will claim that it has lived up to its pro-rural promise despite serious restrictions from industry. “It would be a perfect fit for the campaign to position food law as 'pro-poor" since it has also come under fire from fiscal disciplinarians,” cites TOI.
