As the monsoon session of Parliament kicked off, the Upper House received a new guest — master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut appearance on Rajya Sabha today.

Dressed in a blue striped shirt and black trousers, Tendulkar trotted in the house along with minister of state for parliamentary affairs Rajeev Shukla, before the House was called to order.

Tendulkar, who was appointed to the Rajya Sabha member together with Bollywood actor Rekha and businesswoman Anu Aga, greeted and shook hands with some MPs before taking his seat.

He soon engaged in an animated discussion with lyricist Javed Akhtar, who was seated nedt to the cricket star.

As Tendulkar graced the house, his wife Anjali stood waiting at the visitors' gallery.

When the House was adjourned for 10 minutes following heated arguments, some MPs walked up to Tendulkar to greet and welcome him.

Tendulkar also went up to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and shook hands.
