Following Boston Marathon bombing in April that killed two, the New York City security officials are taking up every small measure to ensure safety ahead of its annual marathon to be held on November 3, reveals sources.
"We want the runners to feel comfortable and we know that they will feel comfortable because of our security measures. We will be talking to runners telling them exactly what they need to do to get to certain places in case of emergencies. And behind the scenes, there's the usual security that is in place," executive vice president of New York Road Runners Peter Ciaccia.
Ciaccia, who was one of the eyewitnesses in Boston Marathon bombing, said he knew how crucial it was to have adequate safety in sporting event like the NYC Marathon.
The NYC Marathon is apparently the world's largest marathon with a record of 47,340 finishers in 2011.
