After fresh violence sparked over ban of veil in France that tensed up the suburbs of Paris, France's interior minister on Sunday made it clear that the security forces would remain deployed "as long as necessary." The unrest was trig erred by an incident on Thursday after an officer stopped a woman from wearing a veil.
Manuel Valls clarified that "a significant police presence until a lasting calm is restored" in and around the satellite town of Trappes in south-west of Paris.
Police detained six protestors in the early hours of Monday in Trappes and surrounding areas, for hurling stones and torching down 20 vehicles.
It's believed that during the incident, the woman's husband allegedly tried to strangulate the officer. However, the Islamist protestors accuse the police of provocation.
France induced a ban on facial veils in April 2011, that has outraged many Islam communities. Violation of this law is a punishable offense where the victim can be fined up to USD 200 or mandatory citizenship training.
As many as 300 women have violated the veil law in the first year since it came into force.
