Burj Khalifa in Dubai may be the world's tallest structure. But a look at China's newly opened New Century Global Center can make even the world's most towering architecture speechless.
As what can be claimed to be another feat in China's architectural marvels, the recently inaugurated business hub, located in Tainfu New District of Chengdu in the Sichuan province in southwestern China, is apparently the "largest freestanding building in the world," as claimed by the Chinese officials.
This sprawling 1.7-million-square-meter mega-structure, which is thrice the size of the Pentagon city in Washington D.C and is capable of lodging 20 Sydney Opera Houses, is spread across a staggering area of 400 meters, is said to be500 meters long and 100 meters high.
The New Century Global Center, that took three long years to complete, was inaugurated on June 28, 2013.
Besides housing several offices, boutiques and stores, hotels and movie theaters, is also home to attractions like a man-made Mediterranean village, an artificial sun to provide heat and light, and a massive indoor water park called the Paradise Island.
The Global Center is sited opposite the Chengdu Contemporary Arts Centre at the heart of Chengdu.
