Pudukottai by poll: 8 vehicle check posts

In order to keep a vigil on the movements of people and vehicles entering the district in view of the by poll to the Pudukottai Assembly constitutency, police have arranged 8 check posts. The polling is on June 12 and the counting of votes is on June 15.

Three teams of police at each check post will monitor the vehicles and the round the clock under shift system.

Each team consists of a special sub-inspector, a sub-inspector, three constables and a videographer. The revenue department has appointed six flying squads to check election related offences.

The check posts are placed at Kavinadu Kanmai near Tiruvappur; Uppliyakudi and Karuveppilan railway gate both near Tirugokarnam; Gandarvakottai; Tirumananjeri near Karambakudi; Alankudi; Kepparai Road near Ganesh Nagar and Sivapuram near Namanasamuthiram.

R. Tamil Chandran, Superintendent of Police said, “These places are the entry points from the adjoining districts such as Tiruchi and Thanjavur and hence we identified these sites for ensuring effective vigil.”  (msn)
