Swine flu is under control: Health Minister

Health Minister V. S. Vijay organized a meeting to review the plans for treatment of swine flu (H1N1 or Influenza A) headed by a technical committee in the State on Friday and declared that the infection is under control.

Girija Vaidyanathan, Principal Secretary, doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, private and government hospitals in the city, a scientist from the National Institute of Epidemiology, Indian Council of Medical Research, a microbiologist from JIPMER and a virologist from Christian Medical College, Vellore have attended the meeting.

The swine flu infection did not warrant immunization of the entire community concludes the committee. It suggested private hospitals to start patients on Tamiflu tablets based on clinical results and advised not to give steroids to patients.  (msn)
