Both young and old alike enthusiastically took part in the ‘Run for Jesus' organised by the Vijayawada town Denomination of Churches on Good Friday. The run was inaugurated by the Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal along with the Church heads of the city. The run started from the Gunadala Church and stretched for about half a kilometre up to the Gandhi Nagar church. The run is to spread the message of the Lord across the nation. The Lord had set his life as an example and set some guidelines for a happy living. The run was to send the peace message to all sides of the state. The event marks the end of a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The event was also followed by many cultural groups irrespective of community.
The run for Jesus is conducted across the coastal districts of the state and the difference is the date. While most of the churches organise it on Good Friday, many also organise on Saturday, just the day before the Easter Sunday. Even in Hyderabad Run for Jesus is conducted today in the morning. The run shall begin at People's Plaza at Necklace Road to Lal Bahadur Stadium via Necklace Road, Tank Bund, Assembly and into the Stadium for a re-echoing climax.
