Stalling the question hour for the second day today, the TRS, TDP and Congress members of the Telangana region raised the Telangana issue in the Lok Sabha by barging into the well of the house and demanding introduction of the Telangana Bill in Parliament.
The action forced the Speaker Ms Meira Kumar to adjourn the house till noon as she found it difficult to conduct the proceedings amid din.
As soon as the house began its proceedings, the TRS, TDP and Congress members rushed to the well raising pro-Telangana slogans. The Speaker requested them to allow newly elected Congress member K. Jayaprakash Hegde from Karnataka to take oath.
Accepting the Speaker’s request, the agitating members returned to their seats allowing the new member to take oath. However, as soon as Mr Hegde took the oath, the slogan-raising members returned to the well and began their dharna.
The members found support from the Opposition leader and BJP stalwart Ms Sushma Swaraj who asked the Government to accept the demand for separate Telangana. “If you take a decision in favour of Telangana, we will also support the cause,” she announced.
Amid the din, only one question was put to the Government by a member but the Chair could not continue with the Question hour peacefully. She finally adjourned the house till 12 noon. (J)
