Police today stopped the ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally led by BJP and some organizations at Indira Park in Hyderabad and arrested BJP leaders Bandaru Dattatreya, Kishan Reddy and Lakshman.
The rally, aimed at demanding the utilization of the SC, ST sub plan funds exclusively for the welfare of the SCs and STs, was nipped in the bud as police personnel in good numbers landed at the Indira Park where leaders of BJP and other peoples’ organizations have been observing fast for the last three days.
The agitators were demanding the government to stop the diversion of SC and ST sub plan funds for other developmental programmes.
Workers of various political parties including BJP, CPI and CPM and caste based organizations have accumulated at the Park to go on the rally but were effectively stopped by the police. Some activists have also courted arrest along with leaders.
CPM leader Raghavulu later announced that the fast would continue as police have foiled their attempt to go on a rally to the assembly. “We will continue the fast at Indira Park for some more days,” he said. (J)
