The ACB (Anti-corruption Bureau) officials, who have so far arrested liquor syndicate leaders and their supporting excise officers in the first two rounds, are now targeting the police officials who took bribes to keep quiet.
In a sudden swoop on Sunday, ACB sleuths have raided several residences of corrupt police officials across the state and arrested 8 of them including two officers on special duty and one DSP. The arrested included 8 CIs.
The arrested were produced before the ACB special court at Nampally in Hyderabad. The court remanded them to judicial custody till March 25.
Mr Umamaheswara Rao, OSD of Adilabad district, Mr Sridhar, Adilabad rural CI, Mr Veereswara Rao, DSP of Hanumakonda in Warangal district, Mr Ranadheer, Subedari CI, Mr Vijayasaradhi, Khazipet CI and Mr Prabhakara Rao, Matwada CI in the Warangal district, Mr Ramprasad, OSD of Kothagudem in Khammam district and Mr Guna Sekhar Babu, CI in charge of the Kurnool Police control room were arrested by the ACB.
The ACB officials are expected to arrest more corrupt police officials linked to the liquor syndicate scam. In the next round, they may arrest ‘Collector-constables’ who are in charge of collections at each and every police station. (J)
