Union Minister and in charge of the affairs of the congress party in AP Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad said today the results of the UP assembly elections would not throw up any adverse affect on the by-elections in AP.
Addressing media persons in Delhi after participating in a high level party meeting in which president Sonia Gandhi reviewed the election debacle, Azad asked the Telangana voters to elect congress candidates in the by elections.
Azad said the party has not taken any decision as yet on the selection of party candidates for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections from AP. Denying reports that the congress party has weakened in Andhra Pradesh, he observed the party never said that retiring Rajya Sabha member K. Keshava Rao would be nominated again to the house of elders.
“We have lost in U.P. as we don’t have strong party set up there but that is no way connected to AP,” he said, adding, congress candidates would win in the AP by polls. (J)
