Respite for Congress in Punjab

The Congress is in an upswing in Punjab and the BJP is nowhere in the reckoning, but the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal also seems to be in the negative position in the game.

The Change syndrome is much evident in Punjab as more and more results are coming up. Right now in the 117 constituency’s assembly the ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal leads in 62 constituencies while the Congress leads in 51 constituencies and scales could tilt at any moment as the disparity is not much.  But unfortunately the BJP is off the gains in all its contests.

The urban areas seem to be well in the urban segment and the Congress projected CM candidate Captain Amarinder Singh was quite confident in winning the post. Political critics feel the results are mainly due to the changeover mind set of the public. Also the ruling party had a serious internal conflict which added to their decline. The Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has been hit by family feud with his nephew and former Finance Minister Manpreet Badal forming his own party People’s Party of Punjab.  (With inputs from internet: AarKay)
