Story
SaiDharam Tej is back with a mystic thriller, Virupaksha. Due to the actor's accident, Virupaksha movie release has been delayed and finally, Virupaksha strikes in theatres. Let's have a look at the review.
Story: The movie opens up in the year 1979 with a double murder, where a couple was burnt alive by villagers on suspicion of practicing black magic in the village. The couple curses the village saying that the entire village will die by next Pushkaram. Virupaksha's film story is set in the 1990’s background. Sai Tej (Surya) returns to his ancestral village, Rudravanam. In 1991, there will be a series of murders happening in the village, where the village poojari asks everyone to stay in the village through Ashta Digbandhana. In between Surya gets into an investigation in search of the reason for a series of deaths.
Analysis
Virupaksha is a mystery thriller based on a 1990 backdrop. While the first half has some boring romantic scenes, the director lifts the story brilliantly by framing some tantric effects. Few scenes are chilling and scare viewers. Sukumar’s screenplay is brilliant. Karthik cleared all the doubts that arose to the audience while watching the film.
Positives :
Screenplay
Unexpected Climax
Production Design
Negatives:
First Half
Romantic scenes between the lead pair
Performance
Sai Tej as Surya is his cup of tea. Sai Tej is apt and has shown some maturity in acting. He tries to unravel the mystery of death happening in the village. His preachings are fewer when compared to his before films and also no needless fights either. Finally, Sai Tej gets a heroic film and proves himself.
Samyuktha Menon as Nandini is the village head's daughter. Finally, the actress gets some meaty role to perform and steals the show with her performance. Ajaneesh Loknath’s music is good as he avoids big noise in the theatre.
Karthik Dandu, a disciple of Sukumar gets a fresh template for the horror story. Few boring episodes, yet the director engages the audience with visual effects and thrills. Rajeev Kanakala, Brahmaji and Sai Chand played some pivotal roles in the film and Sunil is a half-baked villain.
Final Word
Sai Tej and his team bring us an engaging and gripping thriller. The film makes a good watch without any deviations.
