Facebook has launched a blood donations center on its platform with an intent to boost its 217 million users in India to donate blood by showing the possibility to donate in their city, including blood donation events and requests for blood donors.
Facebook has as well proclaimed partnerships with organizations across the country, including National Blood Transfusion Council, a division of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and a non-profit Giants Welfare Foundation.
A new center was announced in San Jose at the F8 developers on World Blood Donor Day in May and can be accessed from the explore menu on the device.
Sign up and notify directly
People who visit "Blood Donations Centre" on Facebook can sign up to be a blood donor, a tool that has been released in October earlier this year where Facebook users in India could sign up to be blood donors and get notified directly where there is a need for blood nearby.
According to the company, currently, over 11 people have signed up in countries including India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
