Mercedes-Benz India made an announcement regarding the initiation of the local production of the expensive locally manufactured car in India, Mercedes-Maybach S-500. German luxury carmaker opened the bookings for the car that cost Rs.1.67 crore (ex-showroom Pune) and rolled out Mercedes-Maybach S-500 from the company’s assembly line.
The marque’s most expensive car in India, the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 was introduced earlier in the day to compete with models from Rolls Royce and Bentley. The cost of the Mercedes-Maybach S 600, which is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), is Rs.2.6 crore.
Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Eberhard Kern said, “This car is the most prestigious and exclusive offering from us till date. It will strengthen our presence in the topmost end of the luxury car market in India.”
“With the start of production of the Mercedes-Maybach we are scripting a new chapter in India today. Thanks to high level of competence in production here that the local manufacturing of the car was allowed by the headquarters,” he added.
With this the car maker will now produce the eighth model of the car in India. Until now, 12 products have been introduced by the company, while there are plans to introduce more three models by the end of 2015.
