New Android version named 'KitKat'

Google certainly has a sweet tooth! After Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, here comes the latest treat from Google - the KitKat!

If you are wondering if Google has opened a confectionery store somewhere, let me tell you, these are apparently the “delectable” terms that Google uses to describe its various versions of Android software.

"Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert," the California-based technology titan said yesterday.

"As everyone finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats."

As a part of its publicity deal, Google is luring customers to win an Android-powered Nexus 7 tablets or credit at its online Play shop by buying KitKat candy bars with Android robot icons on wrappers.

Android software powers more than a billion smartphones and tablets worldwide.

KitKat, on the other hand, as we know,  is a chocolate-covered wafer created by British-based Rowntree's, now manufactured and marketed by Nestle world over.
