Will Google succeed where Facebook failed?

WhatsApp, the instant messenger service that transmits several million messages to and fro everyday will be acquired by Google soon, rumors say. There are several reports online already that say that the deal is almost on the verge of being finalized.

Digital Trends a technology website has mentioned that the negotiations were going on since a month already. The current impasse in the deal is with the final price of the deal. WhatsApp is unwilling to go for an acquisition price lower than $1 Billion.

For $0.99 a year, WhatsApp is the world's most used messaging service. There were over 17 billion messages on New Years eve sent back and forth. Google has the technology to build a completely new rival technology which is similar or even better than WhatsApp but it is highly unlikely that the devoted users of the service will shift to Google.

Earlier Facebook failed to secure a deal with WhatsApp despite trying hard. Looks like Google will get the job done.
