Veteran actor Sivaji, a great legend coupled with Savithri another legend and yet another legend N T Ramarao are the corner stone’s of the yesteryear flick Karnan……….
It is my firm belief that the south Indian films have their foundations in four actors who were a walking encyclopedia’s of histrionics and arts. They are none other than versatile Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, Natasaravabhvuma N T Ramarao, Nadigayar Thilagam Savithri and the graceful Viswa Nata Chakravarthi S V Ranga Rao. These four are no more amidst us but have passed on the legacy of graceful acting which very rarely utilized by our youth icons of the present tinsel world. Give the four stalwarts any project they would carry the portrayal on their shoulders and march ahead to the winning post.
Even the best words in the Oxford dictionary will fall short of their stature. And just imagine what a visual treat it would be to see all of them together on one screen; such were the courage of the production houses that set the screens on fire with histrionics competition. No lesser than that is the 1964 Karnan film in which Sivaji enacts Karna, NTR as Krishna and Savithri as Duryadhana’s wife. Their stellar performance steals the show. This film directed by another veteran stalwart B R Panthulu was recently digitalized and was re-released in theatres ion Tamil Nadu. And of course the present day movie goers once again proved that given the right kind of treat, they are prepared to make it a grand success. The film is setting records once again at the box office.
The film’s last song` Ullathil nalla vullam Urangadhenbathu… Vallavan vaguthathada…’ (The best of the hearts never rests, is what is written by God), this simply means the good are immortalized for their values and are remembered for ever. True to this day while you read this article, values never depreciate, even when time bites the dust….. AarKay.
