Perfume is not just another wardrobe accessory, but an extension of your wardrobe and a high-impact accessory. So pick the right fragrance at the right time and you are guaranteed to nail that interview, wow your date and, more importantly, feel fabulous. Here is how to pick your signature smell correctly.

What’s your personality?

"People who are more shy might want to go for something subtle, while those who are outgoing might want something that's stronger. Regardless, you want to choose a fragrance that you feel comfortable pulling off," says Stephen Nilsen, expert perfumer.

Choose your smell

"If you like vanilla, gardenia, or rose, seek out scents that have those notes. One way to do that is to go online at iperfumer.com or download the free app. There you can rate your favorite perfumes and also get recommendations on other scents that people who also liked your fragrances rated highly, leaving you one step closer to finding your signature scent," Nilsen advises.

 Take a challenge

"Don't be impulsive and purchase a scent that won't make it in the running as your fragrance." Nilsen suggests picking two fragrances that you've always wanted to try, get samples, and wear them each for one week. Then, observe whether or not people are giving you compliments. "That's a surefire sign that maybe you've found your new signature scent."

Be fashion inspired

"Take a look at the trends, what classics are making a comeback, and what the latest styles are," he says. "All of this information can give you some great inspiration on different fragrances to go along with your own personal style. Also, see what your favorite designers are doing, or explore what they've launched in the past."
