It is known that IT raids were carried on at places, properties and places belonging to actors Vijay, Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The raids disclosed tax evasion to the tune of Rs 25 crores. Cash of Rs 2 crores and gold worth Rs 2 crore was recovered by IT sleuths.

A senior official of Income Tax department told The Hindu that, “We raided the offices and premises of ten people including actor Vijay, Samantha and Nayanthara and recovered cash and gold. We won’t be able to give the break up now but in total we have found Rs 2 core cash and gold worth Rs 2 crore.”

“What we found during the raid was all of them did pay tax but there was a partial evasion. They were not paying the full amount,” the official added.

The taxmen has identified the tax evasion was for last six years by the financiers and producers, two years by the actresses and five years by the actor Vijay.

On Wednesday, the Income Tax Department carried out surprise searches at the premises, houses along with offices of film actors Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nayanthara. Also properties of producers Shibu Thameen and P T Selvakumar were also searched. They are two producers of the movie Puli. Film financiers Ramesh and Madurai Anbu were even also under the scanner of the IT department. Around 35 places in Madurai, Cochin, Chennai, Hyderabad and Trivandrum were raided by the IT department. On Thursday night, the raids ended.
