The University of Allahabad has turned into a battlefield after clashes broke out between the police and the students that left several students and cops injured besides damaging several vehicles. In the wake of chaos on the university premises, the university officials have declared that Allahabad University would be close till Monday.

The clashes broke out when the police tried to lift the agitating students on Thursday evening. The students were opposing the university’s direction of vacating the hostels as soon as the exams are completed. The students have said that they can’t vacate the hostel immediately as there were number of competitive exams round the corner and their preparation would go for a toss in search of new accommodation.

Meanwhile, the Chief Proctor of the university has said that handful of outsiders were illegally staying in the hostels against the rule and they took this step in order to put a check to all those people. Nevertheless, the proctor assured that they would give relief to the genuine students but illegal residents  would not be spared.

The university is shut till Monday to ensure that situation limps back to normalcy and to avoid untoward incidents. (Phani)
