Bigamy petition on Kumaraswamy dismissed

The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a petition on Bigamy filed against former JD(S) president and Lok Sabha member Kumara Swamy.  Bangalore based advocate Sashidhar Belumba filed this write petition seeking disqualification of H D Kumara Swamy from Lok Sabha.

The court said that the petition was quashed since the petitioner failed to submit substantial evidences to prove the guilt. It may be noted that Belumba appealed the court that Kumara Swamy attracts many sections of IPC as he allegedly married a film personality for the second time without giving a divorce to his first wife.  Notably,  Anita who is the wife of Kumara Swamy is a legislative member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.  According to Belumba, Kumara Swamy and his alleged second wife have told before the media many a time that they entered into wedlock.  The advocate, however, failed to establish his allegations.

It is known that marrying another woman without giving divorce to first wife attracts punishment according to Hindu Marriage Act.  When the media asked Kumara Swamy about this case and reactions on the petition filed, Kumara Swamy said that it was matter pertaining to his personal life and that he would not share his private matters with the media.  Even his wife Anita too didn’t come up with any allegations nor speak to the media on this matter.(Phani)
