The managements have imposed stringent austere measures in the electronic city on techies on water issues. Even most have closed the pools and the Gym as a precaution.

As summer is fast approaching there is a dearth of water everywhere. And the metros are worse affected. The population is abundant and land is scarce so the water sucking is in large quantity. Even though summer is yet to make a firm foot hold, there are abundant water tankers criss-crossing the city and we are mute witnesses to their chaos. This year the southern states Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are the first affected say sources. Tamil Nadu had its wonderful share of rain fall in the form of a Cyclone and then `Thane.’ The latest news is that most software companies in the Electronic City, Bangalore have sent circulars to their employees to restrict water usage. Even some have closed down swimming pools and gyms where much water is needed. As the summer walks in most companies buy water for all their needs. Mineral water is unavoidable and the expense is also negligible when compared to regular water costs.

According to ELCIA (Electronic City Industries’ Association) President Babu Rangaswamy, the association spends more than Rs 1 Cr on water, which includes charges paid to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for supply of Cauvery water, payment for bore well water, buying water from private water tankers and cans of drinking water.
