The Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar and American Association of Physicians of Indian origin (AAPI) have collaborated for a cause to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America.
The AAPI was to donate monetary resources to the non-profit organization during its spring governing body meeting at Fremont Marriott Silicon Valley, California on March 10.
AAPI is the most ever-changing and ethnic organization representing more than 100,000 physicians of Indian origin. AAPI, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, is a comprehensive organization representing dozen of local chapters, specialty societies an alumni organizations.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a 50-charitable organization founded in 1949, a world's ample voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.
Chillar, an ambitious gynecologist and cardiac surgeon has been disseminating awareness about menstrual and feminine hygiene through her project Shakti. She has been active in accenting on the necessity for educating rural mass on the issue and as well been a ardent advocate on why it is essential for a woman to use sanitary napkin. She has been chosen as AAPI's Brand Ambassador.
The beauty queen believes that being brought up in Delhi, has given her the assurance and ability to fight all odds and win the competition. "I am blessed to have got this opportunity, and I want to give my best. I have decided to take a year's break from my medical studies and my college is very supportive," says Chillar.
Dr Gautam Samadder, president of AAPI, says, "Today physicians of Indian origin have become a powerful influence in medicine across the world. Nowhere is their authority more keenly felt than in the United States, where Indians make up the largest non-Caucasian segment of the American medical community. The over-representation of Indians in the field of medicine is striking - in practical terms, one out of seven doctors in the US is of Indian Heritage."
