In a bizarre festive publicity stunt, Domino's is training reindeer to get pizza to its customers to mark the efficient winter transportation.
This Christmas, in Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido, reindeer will be battling the cold to get pizzas to Domino's customers.
The global pizza chain has already invested in high-tech delivery methods like drones, autonomous robots, satellite tracking and “zero-click” ordering apps to deliver food.
According to a Domino's Japan press release, the pizza company is working with reindeer breeders at the Hokkaido Delivery Integrated Research Center to train them how to deliver pizza.
Reindeer delivery may be part of a contingency plan for Domino’s Japan ahead of what is expected to be a particularly cold and snowy winter.
The press release states, a full-scale roll-out of reindeer will be implemented in December. An update announced the reindeer will be tracked in real-time by a “GPS driver tracker”.
Several weather agencies have predicted that, the weather will be unusually cold in Japan this winter.
