According to the US Geological Survey, an earth quake of 5.9-magnitude has struck northern Afghanistan. The local reports have revealed that this jolted Delhi as well as parts of Pakistan. Nearly 22 kilometres (14 miles) southwest of Ashkasham, 300 kilometres northeast of the Afghan capital Kabul were struck by tremor, at a 92.4 kilometres depth. No immediate reports of damage or casualties are identified.
The quake was occurred at 2.16am local time, which was felt across northern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan and Delhi. Earlier in October, a quake of 7.5-magnitude ripped across Afghanistan and Pakistan, which killed nearly 400 people. Moreover, buildings have been flattened in rugged terrain, which impeded relief efforts.
October's quake brought back traumatic memories of October 2005 quake for many people in Pakistan. In October 2005, a 7.6-magnitude quake struck in October 2005. More than 75,000 people were killed and displaced some 3.5 million.
Afghanistan is hit by earthquakes frequently. It is high in the Hindu Kush mountain range that lies near the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates’ junction.
In Nepal, over 8,900 people were killed due to a quake in April and a strong aftershock in May.
