A Nebraska based guy has sued Walmart for using defective plastic bags that eventually killed his wife.
William Freis of Plattsmouth claimed his wife, Lynette, went grocery shopping on April 16, 2010, at the Walmart Supercenter on 15th Street. After shopping, the cashier handed her 'a plastic bag' for two 42-ounce cans of La Choy and a 2-pound bag of rice.
While returning to the car, the bag snapped and the contents fell on her feet, causing an injury.
Eventually, the cut developed infection and "despite multiple rounds of antibiotics and two surgical procedures," the infection spread and killed her.
The lawsuit filed by the bereaving husband alleges that Walmart did not “effectively train its employees on how to fill customers' bags.”
The bag's manufacturer, Hilex Poly Co. is the defendant in the suit.
Wal-Mart spokesman Randy Hargrove said, "Customer safety is a top priority, and we take it seriously any time an injury is reported in one of our stores."
