The people staying in Villaricos village in Spain were left stumped after a strange-looking sea creature washed ashore in the southern coastal town on Thursday.
The carcass of the mysterious creature have been labelled as everything from a "horned sea monster" to a "mutant fish."
The report was brought to light after a beachgoer notified the authorities of his unusual find. They cops later pulled the decomposed remains of stinking 13-foot creature and cordoned off the area.
María Sánchez, the civil protection coordinator for nearby Cuevas del Almanzora, assumed that mysterious marine animal might have come from somewhere near Africa.
"It has the shape of a snake," she described to ABC. "It's similar to a dragonfish that allegedly comes from Africa and could have been dragged by the current."
On Monday, the Association in Defense of Marine Fauna announced that experts are trying to identify the creature but have yet to present any concrete data, daily newspaper Ideal reports.
