Good news for all the potheads - weed is about to get cheaper now! Now, the bad parti - it will be available at $2.5 per gram only in Uruguay.
The lower house of Uruguay Parliament has passed on an unprecedented bill that not only legalizes marijuana in the country, but also puts production, distribution, and sale of weed for adult consumers under government control. The bill is presently up for vote in the Senate, where it is expected to be passed, and legalized by President José Mujica, a staunch supporter of drug reform.
While critics are concerned potential health and welfare consequences, supporters laud the government's “attempt to pragmatically address the widespread use of marijuana and the systemic failures of the global war on drugs.”
With this Uruguay will be toeing the lines of countries like Portugal and the Netherlands where possession and use of small amounts of pot have bee decriminalized.
With government exercising full autonomy, from cultivation to consumption, it's less likely to be exploited.
“Individual citizens, cooperatives, and private companies can grow a specified amount of weed each month, though it may only be sold to consumers by state-run pharmacies. Purchasers will have to register with the state and will be limited to 40 grams per month,” revealed a source.
