A 45-year-old man called Joaquin Alcaraz Gracia died after guzzling several pints of beer during a drinking contest in Gea y Truyols district of Murcia in Spain.
The Spaniard, who claimed the title of beer-drinking champ, died soon after he was hoisted his trophy in the air. The man fell severely sick after the event and couldn't stop throwing up.
Bystanders dialled for emergency help. But Gracia suffered a massive cardiac arrest even before the medical team could reach out for assistance. He was rushed to a local hospital, but died shortly after his arrival.
Apparently, the man had consumed 12.5 pints of beer in flat 20 minutes.
Although, over consumption of beer is being held as the reason of his death, officials are yet to give a proper verdict on that.
“The beer drinking contest is part of the area's annual festival, which has been held for more than 15 years. However, following the death, future festival plans have been suspended,” revealed a source.
