In a bid to keep its denizens healthy and in shape, Dubai's Municipality has come up with a unique contest called 'Your Weight in Gold'.
The contest promises a reward of more than two kilograms of gold to registered residents. Members who manage to shed more than two kilograms get rewarded with a gram of gold for each kilogram lost.
When asked what was the highest gold reward that the municipality officials were willing to dole out, Hussain Lootah, its director general, said: "It depends how much the people are expecting to lose. We have not set a limit."
To register for the contest, residents must get themselves weighed first at the registration sites — Gate 3 of Zabeel Park, the main gate of Khawaneej jogging track, the start of Mamzar Beach jogging track, Gate 4 of Safa Park, or the main gate of Al Barsha Pond Park between 8pm and midnight from Friday.
The willing participants must bring their Emirates ID card along.
A team of medical and nutritional experts will be present to guide the participants on how to lose weight in a healthy, effective way.
However, those participating must be overweight and should commit to not resorting to unhealthy weight-loss methods during the challenge.
The final weigh-in will be held on August 16.
Dubai Municipality has associated with Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) for the unique weight loss challenge.
