The Spanish prosecutors on Friday revealed that they would seek a prison sentence of eight years against the pop singer Shakira for rejecting a plea deal about the accusation of the tax evasion. The Prosecutors in Barcelona are in plan to demand a fine of 24 million euros which is equal to 24.5 million USD from the 45-year-old pop singer. Shakira has been accused of defrauding the tax office of Spain of 14.5 million euros that she earned between 2012 and 2014. Shakira sold more than 60 million albums till date and is one of the highest paid pop singers of the globe. She rejected a plea on Wednesday and she issued a statement that she was absolutely certain of her innocence.
Shakira also decided to let the case go to the court and she is confident of walking out innocent. A formal referral to the court is yet to be announced and the trail date will be set soon. The lawyers of Shakira told that an agreement remains possible until the trial starts. Shakira moved to Spain in the year 2011 after she made her relationship with Barcelona defender Gerard Pique became public. She was paying taxes in Bahamas till 2015. Shakira slammed the complete violation of her rights. Shakira claimed that the prosecutors have been insisting on money claims earned during the international shows and tours.
Shakira participated in the singing competition show in between 2013 and 2014. Shakira also paid 17.2 million euros to the Spanish tax authorities and the pop singer has no debt to the Treasury for years.
