The South Central Railway—which has its headquarters in Secunderabad--has bagged prestigious Govind Wallabh Pant Award for the year 2011-12. Notably, this award is considered to be the one of the highest awards in the Indian Railway given in recognition of excellence and standards maintained by the railways. It has to be mentioned here that South Central Railway has bagged this award for the first time and it is going to share this award with Eastern Railway.
Wallabh Pant Award will be given during railway anniversary celebrations that are underway and would be concluding on April 16. South Central Railway general manager along with others will receive this award. Addressing the media, chief public relations officer of South Central Railway has said that the work of SCR had been outstanding and that they created a record by transporting 103 million tonnes cargo in a fiscal year.
He has also said that the railway laid down 132 new lines, 24 over bridges. It has to be mentioned here that South Central Railway is going to take another six awards for outstanding work in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, sports, level crossing, road over bridges and traffic transportations.
