One India-One Cloud launched by BSNL

BSNL proposes to connect the various hi bandwidth cities across the nation by a IDC in each for offering hosting and cloud services.

The state owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) shrugs off its age-old bureaucratic image and cruises ahead as a technology driven Public MNC. The new sets of infrastructure and the various value-added services surely, define the leader, supreme ahead of competitors. In its latest bid to provide a uniform cloud services and manage hosting the company had launched its internet data centers (IDCs) in six cities. The IDCs are in collaboration with IT service provider Dimension Data (DD).

The centers are located in Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, having a total footprint of 66,000 sq ft, while DD will manage operations, creates customer-relevant services and provides customer support.

"BSNL will offer managed co-location, managed hosting and cloud services through these IDCs built, operated and managed by Dimension Data for BSNL," the firm said in a statement.

Inaugurating the services the Union Communications Minister Kapil Sibal said, "The IDCs will enhance BSNL's comprehensive service portfolio to meet the communications and IT needs of large medium as well as small business enterprises in India." And "It will facilitate various organizations to quickly induct IT enabled services within their organizations without the hassles of setting up and maintaining their own data centres," he added.

Earlier BSNL had announced its aggressive plans for entering the cloud services space with an initial investment of Rs 200 Cr. Company had launched its cloud services under Onecloud brand to provide services like managed co-location, dedicated hosting, disaster recovery, storage and network. BSNL will be offering hosting (shared as well as dedicated), Co-location, Managed services, disaster recovery, storage, data services and network through its Internet Data centers planed at above locations.
