Talented director Abhishek Chaubey came up with a realistic thriller which discusses about the drug mafia. The movie featured Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles which struggled out before the censor board. After involving in many controversies, the movie has been leaked online two days prior to the release of the film which left the makers in shock.

After lot of struggles, the movie released across the world on June 17th and the movie received decent response all over. The movie opened to packed houses all over and it collected Rs 10.05 crores on its first day. The collections witnessed growth during the weekend and Udta Punjab collected Rs 33.80 crores which is said to be the fifth highest weekend grosser of 2016.

Udta Punjab had a strong hold in Punjab and Delhi along with the multiplexes across the country. Balaji Motion Pictures along with Phantom Films produced the moive jointly and the performances by the lead actors have been getting wide response from the audience.
