Pakistani singer Adnan Sami has got an amazing gift for New Year. The Indian government gifted him a new nationality from the January 2016. This ends his quest for Indian citizenship that went on for more than ten years.
For the first time in 2004, Sami allied for Indian citizenship for the first time. On 26 May 2015, he made a fresh representation for the same on humanitarian grounds.
The 46-year-old, Sami is likely to visit the ministry of home affairs to complete formalities. He said that as an artiste, he loves "Indian culture, the vibes Mumbai has and its beautiful loving people who have embraced me with love and who I feel are my own".
On 13 March 2010, Sami first reached India on a visitor’s visa, he was born in Lahore. Sami’s Pakistani passport was issued on 27 May 2010 and expired on 26 May 2015. Pak government has not renewed his passport which made him to turn to the Indian government with a request to legalize his stay in India on humanitarian grounds.
The singer lives at Lokhandwala with his wife Roya in Andheri. He shot to fame with Bollywood hits and solo albums in the last ten years. Few of his hits include 'Lift Karaa De', 'Bhar Do Jholi meri' and more.
